Puppy Care Expectations

Hello potential provider of love, CARE and a fUrever home for our puppies!

We love our dogs and all that they produce.  That said we thought it best to lay out our expectations for any puppies we sell after they get home.  We are aware the document seems long but most of it is really common sense stuff and all about the health and happiness of your new fur baby so please take the time to read it.  Because the final purchase contract will require you sign and agree to these sorts of things we thought it best to summarize them up front.

Expectations

  • All puppies sold by Texas TLC Goldens will come with a puppy guarantee.
  • Registration options
    • Limited Registration
      • Puppy is spayed/neutered at owners expense on or before puppy’s 25th month of life.
        • Registration is available after proof of sterilization is provided
      • We expect this will be the option chosen for almost all our puppies
    • Full Registration
      • Owner decides to take the big responsibility of breeding their puppy with approval from Texas TLC Goldens
      • Additional fees are required for Full Registration
  • The vast majority of our puppies will be spayed or neutered by the buyer and be outstanding family pets but some very few may elect to pay the fees and take the responsibility of breeding.
    • Puppies with full registration (fees apply) will not be bred until it is of healthy age and maturity (typically 2 years of age).
      • Early breeding will void any puppy guarantee
    • Puppies with limited registration will not be bred at all.  Be responsible to prevent breeding (accidental or otherwise) your puppy between the time he/she gets home and when they are spay/neutered.
      • Breeding at any time with limited registration will void any puppy guarantee
  • The buyer shall provide the dog with
    • Adequate good quality food
      • Feeding poor quality food or allowing your precious Golden Retriever to become obese or underweight will affect the puppy guarantee.  Remember the puppy guarantee covers problems created at birth.  We cannot cover things out of our control.
      • Low quality and “Grain Free” foods can adversely affect the puppy’s health and lifespan and could affect the puppy guarantee as this is a controllable situation.
      • You should do your own research but we do not support and strongly recommend against foods with the “Grain Free” label due to recent FDA and UC Davis studies linking Gran Free foods to potentially fatal heart problems.
        • There are VERY rare corner cases where verified grain allergies may require Grain Free foods but that should ONLY be determined and guided by a qualified Veterinarian and if were us, we’d ask for a second opinion.
      • Good foods should come from a major dog food manufacturer that have been in business more than 15 years, have few if any recalls and actually publishes scientific test results, percentage ingredient quantities (that does not include large quantities of peas, legumes or potatoes) and claims adherence to AAFCO standards.  For information on what we use, check out our New Puppy Advice page but you should feel free to do your own careful research; there are lots of options out there.
      • Helpful links
    • Ample fresh, clean water
    • Shelter
    • Affection
    • Medical care upon sickness, disease, or injury.
    • Annual health Exam
    • Routine Vaccinations as recommended by a qualified veterinarian
    • Heart worm preventative as recommended by a qualified veterinarian
    • Effective flea/tick protection
    • A fenced yard or some other way to humanely allow the dog plenty of safe exercise and ability to eliminate waste.
      • At no time will the dog be chained/tied out or be left constantly outdoors
      • At no time will the dog be left outside for extended periods in extreme heat or cold
    • A collar and ID tag
      • The dog will come with a properly functioning microchip that should be  registered by the buyer (with this breeder listed as secondary contact)
  • The dog will reside with the buyer
  • The buyer will notify the breeder immediately if for any reason you can no longer keep the dog.
    • The dog may not be resold to any person or business for the purpose of resale or research.  Re-homing to a loving family is the only option; we can help with that process
  • The buyer and Breeder agree to keep each other informed of any address or contact changes
  • We expect occasional contact; at least once every 30 days for the first year and once ever 60 days in the second year (or until spay/neutered) the puppy is in your home to let us know how things are going and to answer questions you may have.
    • We encourage you to continue to talk to us ongoing but for the first 2 years or until the puppy is sterilized we require steady communication.
    • Email is fine but our phone is also available.
    • We will be creating a private Facebook page for our puppy owners to share their love, pictures and questions.
  • Texas TLC Goldens will do our best to answer your puppy care questions and concerns for the life of the puppy.

Yes; most of these things are common sense but surprisingly, they often need to be said out loud.  Thanks you for your time and consideration.

Bryan and Terri
