Just because you can eat something does not mean it’s good for dogs. You may be surprised to see the sheer amount of the things we eat that can harm dogs. In some cases it takes a lot to really hurt them but in some cases even a little can be harmful. Side effects can be upset stomach, diarrhea, organ failure or even death. The effects may not manifest for hours or even longer depending on how it’s consumed. The specific effects vary but you should avoid these common things at least:
- Grapes
- Raisins
- Chocolate
- Cocoa, cocoa powder and all cocoa products
- Macadamia Nuts
- Alcoholic Drinks
- Fish, poultry, cooked beef and pork rib bones
- uncooked beef and pork bones should be OK but watch that they don’t splinter and take them away when they become too small to prevent a choking hazard.
- The listed bones can lacerate their insides so no you should not give them your leftover fish, chicken or turkey if it still has or may have bones
