Overview of our Sire policy
Reasoning
- Texas TLC Goldens has elected to always use Sires from other breeders. This practice is more expensive over time but has several benefits:
- No “Accidents”
- Dogs are largely creatures of instinct and when a bitch goes into heat, neither the female nor the male can help themselves; they will breed if the opportunity presents itself. Some males are so driven that they will dig their way through a wall to fulfill that instinct.
- We only plan to have 4 dogs. If one of them was a male we would have 25% fewer puppies over time.
- More variety
- With more Sire’s to choose from we can provide more variety in puppy types.
- No risk of close inbreeding
- We hope to keep at least a few of our puppies over time. If we had a Sire in house an “accident” takes on a new and scarier meaning.
- No “Accidents”
Note: There are huge numbers of responsible breeders that have their own Sire that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that practice but we at Texas TLC Goldens have made the personal decision that we just don’t need that stress.
