All About Goldens Website This site is written by ONE person that has had Golden Retrievers for quite some time and is full of opinions but overall a good read and covers a WIDE range of topics. We disagree with her stance on multiple puppies in that having two puppies can help keep them entertained and ease the transition away from the litter. Having more than one makes training more of a challenge but it’s not all that bad. We also disagree (slightly) with her stance on crate training. Crate training can be a good thing but we personally have never done it over the course many years and many dogs. We just feel better with the dogs having more freedom and have not found any downside to keeping them loose. To each their own but crate training is not a requirement for many.
Interesting article on health effects of spay/neuter Important Note: Texas TLC Goldens requires spay/neuter of our puppies sold with Limited Registration within the first 24 months of life and that there be no breeding (accidental or otherwise, male or female) in the interim. The referenced article above gives some advice on when to spay/neuter. Everyone will have different needs that affect when they do the surgery and many may do it within the first year but the article will allow you to go into that decision fully informed. Most breeders require spay/neuter within the first year to reduce the risk of accidental litters of unregistered dogs but we’ve extended the allowable time frame to best support the puppy’s health. ** The risk of accidental breeding is very real (for both males and females) so we ask our puppy parents to be vigilant and careful if you elect to wait the entire time allowed.
